Gareth Owen Llewellyn (born February 27, 1969 in Cardiff ) is a former Welsh rugby union player who was used as a second-line striker . He was active for the Welsh national team for 15 years .

Llewellyn made his national team debut against the All Blacks in 1989 . He was a permanent part of the Welsh selection until 1998 when he moved to England to join the Harlequins . In 2001 he returned to his hometown club Neath RFC in Wales and was again considered for the national team. His last appearance was in November 2004, as opposed to New Zealand as on his debut. At the Six Nations 2005 he was still in the squad, but came to no further use. At that time he was the record player for his country. He took part in three world championships (1995, 1999, 2003) and was captain of the Welsh national team seven times.

In 2003 Llewellyn played briefly for the Ospreys before moving to France for RC Narbonne . After the rise of the Bristol Shoguns , he was transferred to this team. In 2008, at the age of 39, he moved to the lower-class Welsh club Tonmawr RFC , where he was still active for one season and partly also directed training. Since the 2009/10 season he has coached the Thornbury RFC .
