Metal industry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The metal industry is the summary of all companies that deal with the non- manual production, processing and processing of metals .

Basics

The companies in the metal industry are often divided into the following areas:

The international economic classifications ISIC and NACE see a fundamental distinction between the metal industry in the proper sense ( metal production and processing of raw metal in the first stage to semi-finished products ) and metal processing (in the narrower sense of pure metal products):

(Group C ... manufacturing / manufacturing of goods)
  • NACE C24 - Manufacture of basic metals (metal production and processing) : This includes the production of raw metals (metal works), sheet metal, strip, pipe production, foundries and the like
  • NACE C25 - Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment : metal construction, boilers, forged, stamped, drawn or powder metallurgy products, weapons and ammunition, surface finishing and heat treatment, and the like

The other processing and use of metals can be found in different branches of the economy.

Another subdivision differentiates according to the manufacturing processing stages and processes (DIN 8580), such as B. cold drawing , casting , forging .

National

Germany

The metal industry is one of the most important branches of industry in Germany.

At the end of 2003, almost 100 companies with 94,500 employees were active in the German steel industry . In crude steel production, Germany ranks sixth behind China , Japan , the USA , Russia and South Korea .

The industrial sector of the non-ferrous metal industry comprised around 660 companies with a total of around 112,000 employees.

Around 42,000 people were employed in the 267 industrial foundries , and around 440,000 people were employed in the 4,400 steel and metal processing companies. ( Source: Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor, see link ).

In Germany, the metal industry is mainly organized as a medium-sized company , apart from a few, also internationally leading companies such as Thyssen-Krupp AG , MAN AG .

The total turnover of the branch amounted to 715,312 million euros in 2003 ( source IG Metall see link ).

The interests of the companies are represented by the Wirtschaftsverband Stahl- und Metallverarbeitung eV (WSM).

Bound tariff metal industry are usually in a member association of total metal organized. Union workers in the metal industry are usually organized in IG Metall .
