Nils-Bertil "Bert" Dahlander (* 13. May 1928 in Mölndal , † 6. June 2011 in Mesquite , Nevada , USA ) was a Swedish jazz - drummer .

Life

Nils-Bertil Dahlander received piano and violin lessons, studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, and initially worked in a radio band led by Thore Ehrling . In 1951 and 1952 he was involved in the recordings of Lars Gullin . In 1953 he recorded the single Undecided (Harmoni) with his quartet of Scott Lunde (piano), Ivar Børsum (bass) and Sune Svensson (vibraphone), with whom he also played in the USA and worked there with Terry Gibbs . In Europe he played with Chet Baker in 1956, and again with Gullin in 1956/57. In 1957 he stayed again in the USA with Gibbs and Teddy Wilson , in 1965 with Earl Hines . In 1966 he went to Ralph Sutton in Aspen , Colorado , where he also played with Peanuts Hucko and took part in various Colorado Jazz Party concerts. He also recorded his own compositions, Swedish waltzes arranged as bossa nova in three-four time. He was also involved in the recordings of Toshiko Akiyoshi . Dahlander also played with musicians such as Malte Johnson , Sune Waldehorn , Rune Gustafsson , Rolf Ericson , Lester Young , Wardell Gray , Sonny Stitt , Sonny Rollins , Lars Gullin, Harry Arnold and Zoot Sims throughout his career . During the 1970s Dahlander played frequently in Finland and Sweden, in 1973 he again recorded a reunion album with Earl Hines. In the 1990s he was still involved in recordings by Kenneth Arnström ( Jazz Feeling , 1997) and Jesper Thilo ( Flying Home , 1999). He appeared briefly in the 1950s under the name "Bert Dale".
