Mesquite is a city in Clark County in the US state of Nevada . It is located in the valley of the Virgin River on the border with Arizona and about 120 km northeast of Las Vegas . In 2015, Mesquite had just under 17,000 residents; Acting Mayor is Allan Litman. Mesquite is the location of several casinos and golf courses.
history
Mesquite was founded in 1880 by Mormon pioneers who named the place Mesquite Flat . The name was later shortened to Mesquite . The establishment of a settlement only succeeded in the third attempt after it had previously been flooded by the Virgin River.
