The Voith Gravita is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive with a central driver's cab from Voith . The model Gravita 10 BB with the series number 1261 and the Gravita 15L BB with the series number 1265 are listed in the vehicle settings register .
history
The first prototype of a Gravita was presented at InnoTrans 2008. On July 11, 2008, Deutsche Bahn announced that it would purchase 130 locomotives of variant 10 BB as shunting locomotives. In 2009 and 2010 test drives with the 10 BB were carried out on the Velim railway test ring .
In the vehicle settings register the Gravita 10 BB is listed as 1261, the Gravita 15 and 15L BB as 1265. DB Cargo lists the respective series as 261 and 265.
variants
A total of five different Gravitas in the power spectrum from 400 to 2200 kilowatts were to be brought onto the rails. In addition to the implemented four-axle types 10 BB, 10L BB, 15 BB and 15L BB, it was also planned to build the three-axle variants 5 C and 5L C as well as the six-axle 15L CC for narrow-gauge railways.
The 10 BB locomotives will be fitted with an 8-cylinder Series 4000 engine from MTU , plus a PZB 90 , radio remote control and a shunting coupling. The 15 BB and 15L BB are to receive 12 and 16 cylinder engines from the same engine series. There were problems with the serial approval of the Gravita 15L BB. However, after it could be proven that the wheelset shaft cannot be overloaded, the initially imposed restriction of 70,000 kilometers was lifted.
Constructive features
The superstructures are arranged on a self-supporting frame. The longer front end houses the engine and gearbox, the shorter front end houses the electrics and the compressed air system with air compressor and control valve for the brake. The driver's cab takes up the entire width, while on both sides of the front end there is a side passage through which the driver's cab is also accessed. The doors are arranged on the left in the direction of travel.
On the front sides there are cylindrical deformation elements between the buffer and the front support. The frame rests on the bogies by means of pairs of Flexicoil springs . The pulling and braking forces are transmitted via deeply articulated push-pull rods. The DB locomotives have hollow axle shafts and monoblock wheels.
In some versions, the hydraulic transmission is followed by a mechanical transmission that can be used to choose between maneuvering and driving gear when the vehicle is stationary.
Duration
A total of five Gravita 10 BB locomotives have been delivered as Em 847 to the Swiss companies Stahl Gerlafingen and Panlog.
Eighteen other locomotives (as of August 2011), including the ten used by Deutsche Bahn as the 260 series, are owned by the Northrail leasing company . The first three are in use with changing tenants. The eighth delivered locomotive (works number 10052) has the operating number 260 001 at Deutsche Bahn , the others have consecutive numbers from 260 502 to 260 510 . Two locomotives are owned by Voith-Turbo Lokomotivtechnik. Two Gravita 10 BB were delivered to Saar Rail in September 2011.
From December 2010 the first of 130 new Gravita locomotives were delivered as class 261 to DB Schenker Rail ; they will initially be used in shunting services at stations in the Hamburg area (home office Hamburg-Maschen ) and Halle (Saale). In 2014, locomotives of the class 261 were also stationed in Mainz-Bischofsheim, Oberhausen, Hagen-Vorhalle and Gremberg, while the 265 locomotives are located in Mainz-Bischofsheim, Seelze, Halle G and Hagen-Vorhalle. In the medium term, they will replace the 291 and 295 series and the 298 series in heavy shunting. The class 261 differs from the class 260 by the built-in soot particle filter , which the DB decided to use only after ordering the 130 locomotives.
The Gravita 15 BB was presented at Innotrans 2010. In mid-March 2012 it was announced that 31 locomotives from DB's previous order are to be delivered as Gravita 15L BB. In October 2012 the first of these examples with an output of 1,800 kilowatts was completed, it is classified in the 265 series and bears the number 265 001. By 2014 the delivery was completed.
The production of the Voith Gravita has been discontinued. A total of 165 Gravita diesel locomotives have been produced. In contrast, Gravita locomotives are still offered (May 2014) on the company's website. The website notes that locomotives for the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn and the Paribus Group are in production.
On May 12, 2016, all class 265 locomotives were shut down because there were problems with the engine and gearbox. If the control rod breaks, the locomotives could start moving on their own. The problems have now been resolved and all machines are back in operation.
