List of series in the German vehicle settings register

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of series in the German Vehicle Settings Register ( FER ) provides an overview of the series of locomotives and multiple units of railway companies operating in Germany that were released after 1. January 2007 (introduction of the register) still existed.

According to § 5 para. 1e and § 25a of the General Railway Act (AEG) and its underlying policies of the European Union , the Federal Railway Authority (EBA) from 1. January 2007 responsible for the management of the national vehicle registration register, whereby the EU directives have adopted and further developed the UIC series scheme for traction vehicles .

The series numbers listed here are only assigned to vehicles registered in Germany, other countries in which the UIC series scheme is also used use different series designations or none at all. However, if the vehicle is sold on to other countries, the vehicle numbers will no longer be changed. When registering before 1. January 2007 vehicles operated largely the series designations as they were used by Deutsche Bahn AG and based on it by other vehicle manufacturers. The series number assigned by the EBA for the official vehicle number has four digits, while the DB and its predecessors have assigned three-digit series numbers.

The list does not claim to be exhaustive, as vehicles that were built before 1. January 2007 were only partially included in the register. Only vehicles that have the number already written on them or for which the number assignment has been confirmed are included in this list.

90: Motor vehicles of special design

The code number 90 stands for " traction vehicles of special design", ie all traction vehicles that do not fall under one of the other codes. Classically, these are mainly steam locomotives , but new developments such as hybrid locomotives also fall under this definition.

99: Railway service vehicles

In addition to the regular design service vehicles previously listed by Deutsche Bahn in the 700 series of numbers - the fifth digit of the vehicle number is a 1 in order to retain the check digit - the construction machinery previously listed with UIC-like numbers (starting with 97) are also listed in the vehicle settings register detected. Here the fifth digit is a 9, the sixth, seventh and eighth digits of the vehicle number are neither based on previous number ranges nor freely chosen, but describe the type of vehicle. As with all other types, the ninth to eleventh digits are a consecutive number within the type. Initially, vehicle registration numbers were only assigned to new vehicles, but since 2011 there have also been a few existing vehicles with the new numbers. An overview of the exact meaning of the numbers can be found under the web links.
