The Alstom RegioCitadis is a low-floor, two-system light rail vehicle from the manufacturer Alstom Transport Germany , formerly Alstom LHB, Salzgitter , formerly Linke-Hofmann-Busch , Waggon-Fahrzeug-Maschinen GmbH for combined transport on rail and tram routes.

description

In Germany it is approved for traffic according to the German Railway Operating Regulations EBO and the German operating regulations for trams BOStrab. In the Netherlands , the vehicles operate as trams on converted railway infrastructure.

A vehicle consists of an intermediate car with two running bogies and two semi-mounted end cars, each with a motor bogie at the end of the vehicle.

The first series was sold to Kassel . 18 vehicles with electrical two-system equipment and 10 more as two-motor vehicles for operation under direct current catenary with two additional diesel generator systems were delivered there. The electric railcars were classified in the German vehicle registration register as the 452 series , the two-motor vehicles as the 689 series.

A second series of 54 vehicles was sold to the Netherlands for the RandstadRail project , which was later expanded to include 18 vehicles. These are pure DC vehicles that only run as trams.

For the RegioTram Kassel , 28 vehicles in two different versions were delivered from 2005. Both can run on the tram network with 750 volts DC. The two-system vehicles called "E / E-wagons" can also run at 15 kV ~ / 16.7 Hz in the long-distance rail network, while the two-system vehicles called "E / D wagons" by the operator also have generators driven by MAN diesel engines for operation Lines not electrified with 750 V DC. At the time of construction, the latter was a world first for standard gauge and the first two-power tram cars to be produced in double-digit numbers. A noticeable difference between the two types is the narrower multi-purpose areas between the doors of the two-motor vehicles in the end cars. The fuel tanks are located in the space thus gained.

The roll-out of the first RegioCitadis took place on July 6, 2004. The vehicles were named after fairytale characters in order to make North Hesse and Kassel better known as the geographical center of the Grimm fairy tale world .

Of the 28 vehicles built, 18 with the wagon numbers 701 to 718 are dual-system and ten with the wagon numbers 751 to 760 are two-motor vehicles.

The E / E cars have been used on the Kassel – Warburg (RT1) railway outside the tram network since May 2005, on the Kassel Hbf – Melsungen (RT5) line since June 2006 and on the Main-Weser from September 2007 to December 2013. Train to Treysa (RT9).

The E / D cars are used on the Kassel Hbf – Wolfhagen route. Before that, some wagons were used on the RT2 line, a non-electrified abbreviation to Hessisch Lichtenau . Use on the old Kassel – Waldkappel railway between Wilhelmshöhe station and Kaufungen via Waldau would also be possible.

Up to four cars can be coupled and driven in multiple units . In rail traffic, triple units can be driven in the morning peaks, with the third unit being uncoupled in the main station . Due to the width of the vehicles, the cars can so far only be used in the city center, in Leipziger Strasse to the route to Hessisch Lichtenau , in Holländische Strasse and in Frankfurter Strasse to the Auestadion ; the remaining stretches of the tram network do not have enough large track spacing. These routes may be passed in compliance with meeting bans.

The vehicles belong to the Regionalbahn Kassel (RBK). This emerged from the Baunatal transport association. KVG and Hessische Landesbahn each hold half in the company, which has had a share capital of DM 500,000 since 1999.

The Hague - Zoetermeer (Netherlands)

RegioCitadis by RandstadRail on a former railway line in The Hague

The RandstadRail series was produced for the RandstadRail project . These 54 vehicles (4001-4054) show some technical changes, as they only run as trams. Their maximum permitted speed is 80 km / h, they are only designed for direct current operation with 600 V and 750 V, there are doors in the middle cars and aprons are attached to the middle bogies.

In November 2008, HTM Personenvervoer NV ordered a further 18 vehicles (4055-4072) that were built at the Alstom plant in Reichshoffen . The last train from this order was delivered in July 2011. Cars 4026 to 4054 were delivered without couplers, the rest can be coupled ex works. The multiple control enables the coupling of four cars, due to the length of the platform, use is limited to two cars. (Line 4)

The HTM vehicles mainly run on lines 3 and 4, also as short-cycle cycle compressors. Since 2012, the routes on lines 2 and 19 have also been rebuilt and approved for use by RegioCitadis. On both routes, there are terminal stations without turning loops , so the previously used HTM are directional vehicles of Gtl8 families unsuitable. On Line 2, the RegioCitadis were replaced again by the new Siemens Avenio units in 2015 . Only in the outskirts of the day do the entry and exit trips of line 19 from and to the Zichtenburg depot as trains of line 2. Since the timetable change for the 2017 annual service, increased use of the RegioCitadis on line 2 can also be observed during the day.

Due to an accident, several cars were brought back to the Salzgitter plant for repairs , car 4046 has already been brought back several times.
