history

Lokomotion Projektgesellschaft mbH was founded in 2000 as a project company with the help of the Rail Traction Company (consisting of 95.53% of Brenner Schienentransport AG ( short: STR)). To this end, the company has raised share capital of EUR 2.6 million. In addition to a 30 percent stake from Rail Traction Company, other shareholders have participated in the company, including STR AG with 20%, Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co. KG (20%) and DB Cargo ( 30%) . The aim when the company was founded was to relieve the burner motorway in particular to the benefit of the environment and to bring the goods onto the rails. For this reason, the company was supported by the European Union and the Bavarian state government , among others . As a result, traffic on the company's Brenner axis began a year later . From the Brenner, the trains were taken over by other railway companies in the direction of Italy, as Lokomotion did not have multi-system locomotives until 2005 . From 2005, thanks to multi-system locomotives, Lokomotion was able to carry out non-stop traffic, even beyond the Brenner. Two years later, the rail transport company took over the Tauern axis to Slovenia . From 2012, the company started running trains across the Danube Valley Railway to the Czech Republic and Hungary . Three years later, in 2015, the company opened a location in Vienna called Lokomotion Austria.

Services

The company frequently runs combined transport trains . But Lokomotion also transports block trains with, for example, steel , cars and excavated soil. Lokomotion provides services to and from Germany, Austria and Italy. Lokomotion cooperates with other private railway companies in order to be able to carry out transports in the direction of Belgium , Sweden , France , the Czech Republic , Romania , Bulgaria and Turkey . The company works particularly closely with the Rail Traction Company, particularly on trains going to Slovenia and, in some cases, Italy.

Currently (as of January 2019) Lokomotion is running up to 15 round trips on the Brenner , up to four round trips on the Tauern and up to 3 round trips on the Danube Valley Railway .

Occasionally, Lokomotion also provides services for (passenger) special trains.

Vehicle fleet

At Lokomotion, multi-system locomotives of the series 186 , 189 and 193 (Vectron) , which are designed for Germany, Austria and Italy, are used for the most part. The 185 series is also used at Lokomotion. Some of the series mentioned are leased from the leasing company Railpool . Lokomotion is one of the few railway companies that still regularly use class 139 and 151 locomotives . Like the 185 series, these are approved for Germany and Austria. Nevertheless, trains are also started up the Brenner with single-system locomotives. As a result, they still have to be moved to the Brenner with a shunting locomotive .

From 2001 to 2009 Taurus locomotives were also used by the company. In the years 2013 and 2014, the company tested the 187 series from Bombardier . These are now temporarily leased from Railpool.

The locomotives from Lokomotion are also called "Zebra" because of the striped pattern on both sides of the vehicles, which makes the company clearly recognizable in rail traffic.
