The MaK 450 C is a three-axle diesel locomotive with a rod drive . It was built from 1961 to 1967 in a number of 24 units by the MaK company and belongs to the first generation of MaK rod locomotives .

The series number 98 80 3264 was assigned for this type in the German Vehicle Settings Register.

technology

The MaK 450 C is a further development of the MaK 400 C with a more powerful motor. The built-in MaK motor MS 301 F was available from 1961 as a further developed variant of the MS 301 type. It develops 450 hp (331 kW) at 750 rpm. The engine is a low-speed marine diesel engine with 6 cylinders in an in- line design . The locomotive has a diesel-hydraulic drive with a Voith L 37 Ub gearbox. A jackshaft transmits the drive power to the three axles via coupling rods . With a service weight of 45 t, the locomotives reach a top speed of 62 km / h. The tank capacity is 970 liters.

commitment

The locomotive was designed for medium-heavy shunting and light secondary line service and, with two exceptions, was used exclusively on industrial and port railways. The largest customer was Ilseder Hütte ( Verkehrsbetriebe Peine-Salzgitter GmbH ) , with ten vehicles bought and one rented .

At the moment five locomotives are still in commercial use, three are in museum operation. Four copies have already been scrapped, two are no longer roadworthy. The whereabouts of the remaining ten locomotives is not known.
