The Ilseder Hütte is a former steelworks in Ilsede ( Peine district ) in Lower Saxony, Germany.

history

With the participation of the Ephraim Meyer & Sohn bank, the first company was founded by Carl Hostmann in Groß Ilsede in 1853 to build a steelworks on suspected coal and ore deposits in what is now the Peine district . However, there were no coal deposits worth extracting. Nevertheless, the establishment of an iron and steel works with the name "Bergbau und Hüttengesellschaft zu Peine" was held. However, the company had to file for bankruptcy during the first Great Depression in 1858 . From the bankruptcy estate, under the leadership of Fritz Hurtzig and Carl Haarmann , the "Aktiengesellschaft Ilseder Hütte" was created on September 6, 1858. In 1861 production was started in Groß Ilsede, which expanded rapidly despite the poor transport routes. During the time of the German Empire , Gerhard Lucas Meyer in particular drove the company's expansion into a large-scale mining industry. In 1872 the company was expanded to include a rolling mill in Peine, and the third blast furnace in Ilsede went into operation as early as 1879 .

1928 Ilseder hut took a Dollar Gold bond in the amount of 10 million dollars and a term until 1948 in the National City Bank of New York on.

In 1929 the transport problem was solved by connecting it to the Mittelland Canal .

After the ironworks survived the Second World War unscathed, the company continued to expand in the Federal Republic, but was affected by the crises of the 1970s. In 1970 the merger with the state-owned Salzgitter AG took place , in 1978 the ore mining was stopped, in 1983 the blast furnace operation as well.

The remaining parts of the company became part of Preussag in 1989 , which shut down the remaining production areas of the coking plant , power plant and ancillary extraction in 1995 . Today an industrial park is housed on the hut area. The former blower hall is now used for all kinds of events. The steam center was demolished in spring 2010.
