The Jung R 42 C is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive, 32 of which was built by the Arnold Jung Lokomotivfabrik in Kirchen (Sieg) . It was primarily intended for shunting use in the factory. The wheel arrangement of the Jung R 42 C is C. It is driven by a turbocharged MAN W8V 17.5 / 22A engine with an output of 440 hp. The power is transmitted by means of a jackshaft and connecting rods. The locomotive belongs to the so-called 3rd generation of the young locomotives and is a direct successor to the Wehrmacht locomotive WR 360 C 14 .

The Jung R 42 C was built in 32 units between 1955 and 1962. Since Jung built the locomotives in stock, the last ones were only delivered in 1964. With seven locomotives taken over, the Bundeswehr is the largest customer of the R 42 C. Two examples of the Bundeswehr locomotives have now been scrapped. The Kleinbahn Weidenau – Deuz received four locomotives just like the Siegener Kreisbahn and the Freie Grunder Eisenbahn one, so that after the merger as Siegen Kreisbahn in 1970, nine locomotives ran there.

The number 3942 is provided for the Jung R 42 C in the German vehicle settings register.
