The Westfrankenbahn , WFB for short , formerly also WestFrankenBahn , founded on January 1st, 2006 , is a regional network of Deutsche Bahn AG , in which the areas of infrastructure , stations, operations, service and sales are combined under one roof.

history

The company leased the railway line Aschaffenburg-Miltenberg , the railway Miltenberg West Wertheim , the railway Lauda-Wertheim , the railway Crailsheim-Königshofen and the railway Seckach-Miltenberg . In addition, the Westfrankenbahn operates passenger trains on the Crailsheim – Heilbronn and Lauda – Königshofen routes . The Kahl – Schöllkrippen railway line has also been part of it since December 13, 2015 , while the Würzburg – Lauda section has not been provided since December 2018. The total length of the travel route traveled by the Westfrankenbahn is 401 kilometers, of which 204 kilometers are on its own infrastructure. Every year a transport performance of 3.6 million train kilometers is provided.

As of 2006, the Westfrankenbahn ensures that freight traffic will be possible again on its routes in the future. In 2016, however, freight traffic only took place on the northern routes. The ports in Aschaffenburg and Wertheim are served regularly. Freight trains also run to Obernburg-Elsenfeld, Miltenberg, Kleinheubach and Gamburg. Trains that exceeded the loading gauge also ran through the Main and Taubertal valleys in order to bypass the Schwarzkopftunnel by 2017 .

The headquarters of the profit center management is located at Elisenstraße 30 in the historic railway office at Aschaffenburg Central Station. From there, passenger traffic is operated on the routes mentioned above . The vehicles are serviced in the workshop of Kahlgrund-Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH in Schöllkrippen , which was rented from the Westfrankenbahn.

The company plans to invest around 134 million euros in the improvement of the rail infrastructure between 2006 and 2025 , and new railcars have been purchased from 2008. The WFB is also active in freight transport , e.g. B. to the port of Aschaffenburg .

The Westfrankenbahn developed a three-line version of the dynamic text display for its stations , which also shows the next train departures.

vehicles

Originally the Westfrankenbahn were 32 diesel multiple units of the 628 series , 46 DMU Class 642 and the diesel locomotive 218,460 available. In December 2018, the company took over 27 additional class 642 multiple units from DB Regio, which were modernized and replaced the last units of the 628 series by December 2019. However, the Anna and Maria railcars , both in mint-green product paint , were retained as operating reserves. On December 1, 2019, the farewell run for the 628 series took place at the Westfrankenbahn.

Passenger Advisory Board of the Westfrankenbahn

A passenger advisory board was founded in April 2016 and is intended to support the Westfrankenbahn in future in improving operations and service. The honorary members are all customers of the Westfrankenbahn, for example commuters, occasional drivers and retirees. The advisory board meets three times a year to provide information and advice on new projects or operational disruptions and also takes part in public events organized by the Westfrankenbahn.
