The Gäubodenbahn is one of the six regional networks of Deutsche Bahn AG and was founded in 2002. It is subordinate to DB RegioNetz Verkehrs GmbH and DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur GmbH.

DB class 628 of the Gäubodenbahn on the Bogen railway bridge

The Gäubodenbahn operates the passenger traffic on the 45.5 kilometer long course book route 932 (Neufahrn - Radldorf - Straubing - Bogen), that from the 26.2 kilometer long Neufahrn - Radldorf , 9.6 kilometers of the Regensburg - Passau and 9.7 Kilometers of the Straubing – Miltach railway line .

The travel time between Munich and Straubing has been shortened by 22 minutes thanks to the operation of the Gäubodenbahn.

business

The line with 14 stations is used by 40 trains daily. The transport services ordered by the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft are provided exclusively with five class 628 diesel multiple units.

Since the timetable change in December 2014, trains have been running between Neufahrn and Bogen every hour from 05:00 to 00:00 (on weekends until 01:00). The Gäubodenbahn runs between Radldorf and Straubing on the Regensburg – Passau railway line and finally on the remaining part of the former Straubing – Miltach railway to Bogen. A pair of trains is extended on Saturdays via Landshut and Mühldorf am Inn to Salzburg .

The tariffs of DB AG apply to the entire route. There is also the Gäuboden Hopper Ticket , which can be used for any number of journeys on the Gäubodenbahn for € 8 per day and person.

As of 2016, the Gäubodenbahn will be integrated into the Südostbayernbahn as part of the tender for the Mühldorf line star . This is already noticeable through the lively exchange of class 628 diesel multiple units between the two neighboring regional networks. The multiple units of the Gäubodenbahn are mostly named after cities along the route.

In the future, it is planned to test overhead line / diesel hybrid trains on the route, as an overhead line is available between Straubing and Radldorf. This is intended to reduce pollutant emissions.
