history

At Ittling-Sand there were indications of an already prehistoric settlement. Graves from the Merovingian era were discovered near Ittling-Hofstetten.

Ittling belonged to the prop part of the Augsburg cathedral chapter located outside the city of Straubing and, according to Salbuch, was the seat of an office from 1444. In 1535 the sovereign acquired the property. In the court register of 1599 Ittling is mentioned as a Hofmark subject to Renthaus Straubing . An unauthorized pilgrimage to Ittling that arose during the War of the Spanish Succession was shut down in March 1708 by order of the Austrian occupation.

On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Ittling came to the city of Straubing as part of the municipal reform . The rural district developed into a preferred residential area due to its favorable location on the B 20 and the proximity of the commercial and industrial areas Straubing-Ost and Straubing-Sand. With its extensive housing estates and around 6500 inhabitants, Ittling has a suburban character. The district has grown rapidly in the last few decades. The area of Ittling has almost doubled in recent years due to the settlement in the Zwiequanterin new building area.
