history

Early references

The fields with their excellent loess soils were already populated by Neolithic farmers . Archaeological investigations in the district of Lerchenhaid uncovered Neolithic long houses and extensive traces of Celtic settlement .

A chance find during the clay quarrying on Alburger Hochweg brought the greatest treasure from Straubing antiquity to light: the Roman treasure with parts of parade armor for soldiers and horses (exhibited today in the Gäubodenmuseum Straubing ).

There are also rich finds from the period between the end of Roman rule and the early Middle Ages . In the meantime, a very important Bavarian settlement site at the site of today's village center and the associated burial grounds have been identified.

Alburg in the Middle Ages and Modern Times

Alburg was first mentioned in a document in 777 in a deed of donation from the Agilolfinger Duke Tassilo III. to the Upper Austrian monastery Kremsmünster . One dedicated to St. Martin dedicated "capella" is documented. The chapel in honor of St. Martin (today the parish church of St. Stephan) on the Regensburg - Passau - Vienna trunk road, mentioned in a document in the early Middle Ages, points to Carolingian property. In the 10th century the Regensburg monastery of St. Emmeram received property near Alburg. The local property of the monastery Kremsmünster was given in 1073 by Bishop Altmann von Passau to the newly founded Passau monastery St. Nikola . The patronage changed from St. Martin to the Passau diocesan patron St. Stephanus. The Rohr monastery and various nobles also owned land near Alburg in the Middle Ages.

In 1411 there was a conflict between the St. Nikola Monastery and the Augsburg Cathedral Chapter regarding the tithe rights for the area between Alburg and Straubing. The border between Alburg and Straubing was finally marked with boundary stones . Alburg was already a parish at that time. Until the secularization of 1803, in addition to world priests, clergy from St. Nikola pastored the monastery parish of Alburg, located in the diocese of Regensburg. At the time of conscription, the monastery still owned six estates here.

Alburg was the 16th century chief official of the District Court Straubing to the 1599 next to the municipal office Straubing also still the Unteramt Salching belonged. The Oberamt was divided into the main teams Alburg, Atting , Perkam and Dürnhart . In 1752 the area of the Oberamt Alburg comprised 560 properties. A separate lower jurisdiction was not established in Alburg.

Alburg community

With the community edicts since 1808 the church was Alburg. In 1821 the wastes Harthof and Oberast from the Mitterharthausen parish were allocated to Alburg, as they belonged to the parish of Alburg.

Until 1972, the municipality belonging to the Straubing district comprised eight parts of the municipality on an area of 2200.76 hectares (22.0 km²), in addition to the parish village of Alburg as the main town , the parish village of Frauenbründl , the villages of Kay and Lerchenhaid , the hamlet of Wimpasing and the deserted Harthof , Oberast and Mooshäusl .

On July 1, 1972, the agricultural community lost its independence in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria and was incorporated into the independent city of Straubing.
