The Südostbayernbahn ( SOB ) is a regional network of the Deutsche Bahn AG , which has included the line star Mühldorf since 2003 . It is subordinate to DB RegioNetz Verkehrs GmbH and DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur GmbH.

Vehicle material

As a railway company , the Südostbayernbahn operates trains (after taking over the garbage haulage services in the direction of Frontenhausen - Marklkofen by DB Cargo ) now exclusively for passenger transport . The transport services are provided predominantly with diesel locomotives of the 218 and 245 series as well as with 628 series diesel railcars . Double-deck coaches are available as passenger coaches. The vehicle fleet has been heavily modernized over the past few years. Since 2012, 24 new air-conditioned double-deck cars have been purchased and the older double-deck cars have been modernized and air-conditioned. As a result, the n-cars were successively replaced. Since 2014, the class 218 diesel locomotives have been gradually being replaced by class 245 diesel locomotives . The purchase of eight locomotives (245 008-015) of this series was the largest investment in the history of the Südostbayernbahn so far. After the successful completion of the test drives, the first of the ordered locomotives was officially delivered and presented to the public in May 2014. They are primarily used in front of long double-decker trains on the main route from Munich via Mühldorf to Simbach (Inn).

From 2008 to 2012 the SOB also owned a Regio-Shuttle (650 997), which comes from earlier holdings of the Kahlgrund Verkehrs-GmbH and was used on various routes. In the meantime the car has been returned.

Class 426 electric multiple units, which are serviced in Munich Steinhausen, were used on the Traunstein – Ruhpolding route, but were taken out of service by the EBA in November 2019 and replaced by VT628 . On June 5, 2020, the first 426 resumed operations.

Until the timetable change in 2016/17, most of the n-wagons disappeared from the fleet of the Südostbayernbahn due to a lack of possible uses. The 628 series diesel multiple units had also been extensively modernized by then, as they will be in use until the current contract expires in 2024.

Since January 2019, the Südostbayernbahn has owned seven vehicles of the 640 series , which have been used on the Traunstein – Traunreut (–Mühldorf) , Traunstein – Waging and Traunstein – Ruhpolding routes since the timetable change in December 2019 .

For the 2019 timetable change, the Südostbayernbahn received six class 642 diesel multiple units , which are used by ÖBB on the Freilassing – Braunau route.

Each year 9.5 million passengers use the trains of the Südostbayernbahn.

Transport and infrastructure

Route network

The routes to Munich, Ebersberg to Grafing and Freilassing to Salzburg were leased for a longer period. They belong to DB Netz AG and are leased by DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur GmbH - the lease is therefore carried out by the infrastructure company of the Südostbayernbahn.

In the past few years, the Südostbayernbahn has made considerable investments in infrastructure . Among other things, the construction of the new Inn Bridge was completed, various train stations expanded and the technology of signal boxes and level crossings renewed.

The route network comprises a total of 407 km and 81 stations. This is used by 380 trains every working day.

Freight traffic on the Südostbayernbahn network is carried out by DB Cargo .

In order to be able to operate the railway lines in the area more efficiently, Deutsche Bahn is pursuing the concept of regional networks . One of the six regional networks nationwide is called the Südostbayernbahn . It comprises the infrastructure of the following routes and / or operates passenger traffic on them:
