Karpfham is a district of the town of Bad Griesbach im Rottal in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

history

The place Karpfham was first mentioned in the year 903, when Ludwig the child gave the tithe from "Chorpheim" to the cathedral chapter of the Diocese of Passau . The parish is mentioned in a document as early as 1038, in Griesbach there was only one branch church until 1805 . In 1376 knight Heinrich Tuschl von Söldenau , carer in Vilshofen , donated 54 pounds for a perpetual mass .

From 1864 to 1964 the English ladies ran a monastery and a school here. The municipality of Karpfham had 1,114 inhabitants in 1933 and 1,077 in 1939. During the municipal reform she came to the city of Griesbach im Rottal on January 1, 1972 .

Attractions

  • The parish church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt was built between 1453 and 1476. It has a complicated colored ribbed vault with late Gothic ceiling and wall paintings. The decor is neo-Gothic.
  • The cemetery chapel, which is dedicated to the 14 helpers in need, also has a ribbed vault.
  • Karpfham is best known for the Karpfhamer Fest in September, the third largest folk festival in Bavaria.
