history

Griesbach Castle and Market in the 18th Century (Engraving by Michael Wening )

Until the 19th century

The "Burg Griesbach" was first mentioned in a document around 1076. The place was the seat of a maintenance office and belonged to the Landshut rent office . It was completely destroyed by the Palatinate troops in 1504, but was rebuilt soon afterwards. In 1778/79 Griesbach was occupied by Austria. Before 1806, Griesbach im Rottal was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and had a market court with its own magistrate rights. In 1802, Griesbach became the seat of a regional court.

20th century

The town elevation of Griesbach took place on September 2, 1953. The Bavarian regional reform brought on January 1, 1972 the incorporation of the communities Karpfham, Reutern, St. Salvator and Weng. However, the loss of the district office on July 1st of the same year inevitably triggered a change in the economic structure. After the discovery of the thermal springs of Bad Füssing , the successful drilling for thermal water in the years 1972/73 in the Schwaim part of the municipality stood for an orientation towards the spa system.

Thermal bath

As early as 1973 the city was designated as a state-recognized health resort . In 1977 a municipal spa center was opened. In 1979 the state recognition of the three thermal springs, the namesake of the three source baths . In 1985 the Ministry of the Interior of the City of Griesbach awarded the thermal center the title Heilbad . In order to avoid confusion, with the recognition of the official title Bad for the entire city area in 2000, the thermal area, which had previously only had the title Bad Griesbach since 1985 , was renamed Bad Griesbach-Therme. However, the name of a spa area is common among locals . The three springs in the spa area, Nikolausquelle, Marienquelle and Karlsquelle, were developed in 1973 and have a temperature of up to 60 ° C and come from a depth of 1522 meters.

Since January 5, 2000, the city has had the addition of Bad .

Outsourcing

On January 1, 1982, parts of the area with then about 40 inhabitants were assigned to the Ortenburg market .
