history
Until the 19th century
Perinpah was first mentioned in a document in 812 , when the knights Ruman and Gerhart donated their possessions in Tuttinga and Perinpah to the Bishop of Passau on June 24th of that year. Pastor Maximilian Hartmann identified Perinpah with Birnbach in a post in the East Bavarian border brands.
Since the 9th century Birnbach was the parish seat with a large parish economy. A noble family was mentioned in Birnbach as early as the 12th century. From 1241 to 1248 Albert Behaim was pastor in Birnbach. It had been a ducal office since the 14th century. The place was cremated in 1504 during the War of the Bavarian Succession . After that, the new Birnbach, which is still essentially preserved today, developed. In 1673 it was raised to the closed Hofmark Birnbach . The late Gothic church, built in 1483, burned down in 1675, but was rebuilt soon afterwards. It only received its tower from 1828 to 1831.
In 1677, Birnbach received the right to hold markets for the first time through an electoral letter of grace . In the 19th century, the Counts of Arco-Valley acquired the medieval estate not far from the church and built a large brewery on the property of the former aristocratic residence. The Count's Brewery Arco-Valley still exists in Bad Birnbach today.
20th century
In 1939 the Bayerische Mineralölindustrie AG was drilling for crude oil near Birnbach. Instead of oil, thermal water was found. At the order of the Reich government, the well had to be filled in again. It was not until 1973 that the thermal water was drilled again, and on September 21, 1973, a thermal spring was discovered at a depth of 1,700 meters. On September 23rd, the water that poured steaming into a bathtub on a meadow was examined. The Birnbach Thermal Bath Association, founded in 1973, contributed to the development. In 1974 the foundation stone was laid for a spa center that was modeled on the Bavarian four-sided courtyard . Spatially separated from the spa center, the pure vacation area was created north of Birnbach.
In July 1976 the thermal bath was opened under the name Rottal Terme®. In 1979 Birnbach was officially recognized as a resort and Rottal Terme as a mineral spring spa. On December 11, 1979, an extension of the Rottal Terme was opened. Birnbach changed its appearance significantly, it created its own market square, surrounded by shops with arcades, a new town hall, traffic office and post office, hotels, banks and businesses. In 1984 Birnbach was raised to the status of a market town , and in 1987 it was given the title bathroom .
Incorporations
On April 1, 1971, Birnbach was enlarged to include the area of the previously independent municipality of Untertattenbach.
On January 1, 1972, part of Kindlbach was added.
On July 1, 1972, the merger with Asenham and Hirschbach took place.

coat of arms
Blazon : Divided by red and silver; above a golden stag pole, below a red rose branch.
For a representation in the new municipal coat of arms, several former aristocratic lords became a sideline of the Counts of Tattenbach as Hofmarks owners in Hirschbach (with the talking coat of arms of a deer pole) and the von Schmid family, who lived in Birnbach from 1670 onwards, because of their special significance for the historical development of the places involved , from which the Bavarian Chancellor Caspar von Schmid (* 1622 | † 1693) came from (coat of arms: Rosenzweig). The color scheme of silver and red also addresses the part of the municipality Brombach , as these colors appear in the coats of arms of some owners of this former Hofmark, namely the v. Prachbeck, v. Venningen and v. Molzer dominate.
