history
Until the 19th century
Eggenfelden was first mentioned in 1120, when the Baumburg monastery near Trostberg was given an interest property called etinvelt from Countess Adelheid von Sulzbach-Rosenberg .
In 1259 the House of Wittelsbach took over the sovereignty over this area and thus also the place. The Wittelsbachers brought about the expansion of Eggenfeldens into a solid economic market with its own limited legal powers and the place name was changed from etinvelt to Ecknfeld . Since that time, the citizens managed the market for trading goods in a council constitution as well as an external and an internal council. After 1440, Eggenfelden became the seat of the care court , which at the beginning of the 19th century became a district court and in 1862 a district office (today District Office ) converted.
The neighboring, meanwhile incorporated old settlement of Gern received the status of Hofmark in 1347 . The Gerner , a traditional fair, is held every April. Since the year 1393 a medieval leprosarium ( leper colony ) consecrated to Saint Lazarus was detectable "in front of the city" , of which no remains or field names have been preserved.
With the opening of the Rott Valley Railway from Neumarkt-Sankt Veit via Eggenfelden and Pfarrkirchen to Pocking , the town was connected to the railway network on September 1, 1879. The railway connection ( Mühldorf -) Neumarkt-Sankt Veit - Pocking (- Passau ) is operated today by the Südostbayernbahn (infrastructure and passenger transport, partly freight transport) and by DB Cargo (freight transport).
