Theater an der Rott

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theater an der Rott is located in the Lower Bavarian town of Eggenfelden and is the only district-owned theater in Germany, the sponsor is the Rottal-Inn district .

The House

The “Big House” of the Theater an der Rott has 385 seats in parquet and balcony. Smaller performances can also be played in the 99-seat studio. The theater café , also with 65 seats, serves as the third venue for recitals and scenic readings . In addition, the theater also plays in venues in Eggenfelden and beyond.

The history

The Theater an der Rott was opened on September 25, 1963. The driving force was Ludwig Ostermeier , from 1952 to 1972 district administrator in what was then the district of Eggenfelden . Together with the architect Otto Hofmeister, he started planning and implementing a theater stage. The place for this was the room actually intended as the auditorium of the new vocational school. In the end, a fully-fledged theater building with around 500 seats, an orchestra pit, stage and cloakrooms was created. The auditorium was a typical example of the 1960s interior design and was characterized by lots of wood.

In 1985 the major renovation of the Theater an der Rott took place. Sufficiently large and modernly equipped workshops, a larger back stage and a technically renewed stage with a stage tower were created. The auditorium lost its "veneer variations", has since been kept in gray and red and has ceiling lighting that resembles a starry sky.

The directors

Adi Fischer

Adi Fischer was the first director at the theater - Ludwig Ostermeier brought the then Salzburg director to Eggenfelden. By the time he retired, he had 34 seasons.

Peter Nuesch

With the Swiss Peter Nüesch , who previously directed the Turmtheater he founded, a private theater in Regensburg , new ideas came to the Theater an der Rott in 1997. In 2007 Nüesch ended his contract with the theater in order to venture a fresh start as the artistic director of the Mayen Castle Festival .

Mario Eick

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season, Mario Eick, the third artistic director in the history of the theater, took over the helm. Before that, the Cottbus-born director of the Cabaret des Grauens in Burghausen . Brian Lausund was at his side as senior game director. Music director Hannes Ferrand, who had been part of the permanent artistic staff of the Theater an der Rott since 1997, was the musical director. At the end of the 2011/12 season, Mario Eick's commitment ended, as his contract was not extended by the responsible district committee of the Rottal-Inn district.

Karl M. Sibelius

In the 2012/13 season, the actor, director and cultural manager Karl M. Sibelius took over the management of Mario Eick. He began his activity with a complete repositioning of the theater.

Uwe Lohr

In the 2015/2016 season, Uwe Lohr took over as the fifth director of the theater from Sibelius, who moved to the Trier Theater. As a first innovation, Lohr founded its own children's and youth theater division under the name JUNGE HUNDE. Markus Steinwender from Salzburg took over the division management. Since autumn 2017, an ensemble with five colleagues (drama and musical) has been expanding the team for the evening program. The Theater an der Rott is one of the few houses that now has its own musical division.

financing

In the 2007/08 season, the budget of the Theater an der Rott was around 1,400,000 euros. Almost 35 percent of this was covered by own income from ticket sales. This means that the Theater an der Rott occupies a leading position among public theaters in Bavaria. A large part of the remaining subsidy requirement is covered by the Rottal-Inn district. In addition, the Theater an der Rott has always received financial support from the Free State of Bavaria and from the Lower Bavaria District Cultural Foundation. Further funding comes from the Sparkasse Rottal-Inn cultural foundation , from the “Friends of the Theater an der Rott” association and from sponsors from the region who help ensure the continued existence of the theater. Sibelius announced in January 2012 that the current total budget was 1.5 million euros and the artistic budget of that was almost 900,000 euros. No permanent ensemble at the theater allows this. The annual budget of the Theater an der Rott is now around 1.8 million euros. Director Dr. Since 2015, Uwe Lohr has also succeeded in creating 16 new positions in all artistic and technical areas with the existing funds, including an ensemble with a total of 9 positions.
