Theater an der Rott

In 2012 Sibelius moved to the Theater an der Rott in Eggenfelden as artistic director, and in 2012/2013 he organized his first season. His artistic and economic restructuring measures (change management) are closely followed across the region. At the end of the 2014/2015 season, he prematurely ended his work at the Theater an der Rott.

Theater Trier

Sibelius became general manager of the Trier theater in August 2015 . In 2016 there was criticism of Sibelius's management of the theater. His dismissal from the theater director Ulf Frötzschner without notice was reversed by the city after protests by the theater ensemble and the directors and a hearing before the stage arbitration court.

In the course of 2016 it became known that the budget of the theater had been significantly exceeded. In a meeting on November 17, 2016, the Trier city council decided to terminate the contract with Sibelius at the end of the month. The reasons given by Mayor Wolfram Leibe include a "dramatic mismanagement" and a deficit of over 3 million euros since Karl M. Sibelius took office.

Engagement outside the theater

Sibelius was active on the Linz City Cultural Council and is committed to the Aids-Hilfe Upper Austria. For two years, his column “Everyday Culture” appeared in the daily newspaper Austria every Monday . At the Anton Bruckner Private University , Sibelius was a lecturer at the opera school.
