Companies

The place is known nationwide for its natural gas processing plant operated by ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH - Voigtei, which has been one of the few domestic sources to support the natural gas supply in northern Germany since the 1950s .

The geologist Heiko Nuß (StBG) wrote under the heading " Natural gas from Voigtei " in the specialist magazine " Steine + Erden " (issue 6/03) in 2003:

Here, too, it all began with oil . 50 years ago, the 'Voigtei 1' well brought the first oil discovery in the Nienburg district. Oil is still being produced from 78 wells here today. At the end of 2002, the Voigtei company with its oil fields in Voigtei and Siedenburg was able to look back on a record of five million tons of oil produced since production began in 1953.

Then came natural gas in the sixties. However, some of the natural gas produced here has a serious disadvantage: it is sour gas with a high proportion of hydrogen sulphide , a gas that smells bad and is highly toxic even in low concentrations. In order to make it salable, it has to be processed. That is why the NEAG natural gas purification plant was put into operation in the immediate vicinity in 1963. Only in this way was it possible to make a large part of the domestic natural gas reserves available to consumers. "

But in 2013 natural gas production in Voigtei was stopped or moved to Großenkneten ( district of Oldenburg ). A large part of the NEAG is to be demolished by 2017. The gas that was produced in Voigtei is now processed in the factory in Großenkneten.

traffic

Voigtei is far away from major traffic: The B 61 from Sulingen via Uchte to Minden runs 7 km to the west. Of Diepholz through Sulingen to Nienburg / Weser leading B 214 runs north, 8 km away. The federal motorways are even further away.

In Voigtei there are no street names, only house numbers that residents, postmen, suppliers and visitors have to use for orientation.
