history

Until the 19th century

Although an earlier settlement in the 10th century is assumed, the first documentary evidence comes from the year 1220. At that time Wurmannsquick was owned by the Wittelsbach family . In 1365 Wurmannsquick got from Duke Stephan the Elder , the lower courts and the right to hold markets granted. The market was granted the right to hold a weekly market in 1473 from Duke Ludwig and Duke Albrecht equipped it with two further annual fairs. The district of Hirschhorn was mentioned in a document as early as 1165 and was the seat of a Hofmark . There is evidence that Rogglfing was the seat of the Count of Ortenburg in 1190 .

On June 3, 1875, the market burned down almost completely. However, the residents of Wurmannsquick managed to rebuild the market in its old size and beauty in a very short time. The parish church of St. Andreas was built from 1878 to 1881 by the architect Johann Baptist Schott .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1971, the previously independent communities of Hickerstall and Martinskirchen were incorporated. On January 1, 1972, parts of the dissolved communities of Hirschhorn, Langeneck and Rogglfing were added. On May 1, 1978, parts of the former municipality of Lohbruck were also incorporated into the Wurmannsquick market.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew from 3,306 to 3,563 by 257 inhabitants or 7.8%.

coat of arms

Blazon : In silver a resisting, fire-breathing green dragon worm.

Declaration of the coat of arms: A lindworm as a wrongly speaking image for the name component Wurm- (older name form: Purgmansgwike , from the name Purgman and the word gewicke (mhdt. Wegscheide)) already existed in the coat of arms on the oldest seal (handed down since 1477). The tinging has been known since 1811. Seal and coat of arms were presumably awarded by the Lower Bavarian dukes .

Culture and sights

  • Newly designed, elongated marketplace
  • The neo-Romanesque church of St. Andreas, a light-colored pillar system with brick walls from 1881, renovated in 2002. Its furnishings are baroque and modern.
