The name is derived from Old High German trufteren (to swing back and forth) and can be found in the word Trift (wood transport) . According to Truftrin , Truftiren , Truftern , Trüfter and Trifftern , Triftern is only attested from 1797.

Kaser stone room
The Kaser Steinstube, located in a wooded area between Unterpaikertsham, Voglarn and Osten ( 48 ° 22 ′ 35 ″ N, 12 ° 59 ′ 58 ″ E ), is a collection of larger blocks of rock that extend over 100 meters in length and up to 20 Meters wide. It is a block flow that emerged in the course of the Quaternary on the western edge of the plateau, which extends southeast of Triftern. The hard Miocene quartz conglomerate of the Upper Freshwater Molasse that was present there weathered to form blocks that were transported down the slope towards the west by floor tiles .
The block current has been designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) as a geoscientifically valuable geotope (geotope number: 277R001) and natural monument . It was also awarded the official seal of approval for Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes by the LfU .
