Reginhar of Passau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reginhar (also Reginar ; † 838 ) was the 9th Bishop of Passau .

Reginhar's origin is unknown. He was probably Bishop of Passau since 818 at the latest. Under Reginhar the diocese received various donations, including a. of King Ludwig the Pious 823 in Lower Austria . In 829 the border to the Archdiocese of Salzburg was redefined at Raab and Spratzbach . In 833 and 836, the diocese received donations in the " Awarenland " ( Bavarian Ostmark ) from King Ludwig the German . His erudition and exemplary way of life are praised in older literature.

His life and his meaning can no longer be determined with certainty, since the news about him was changed in the 13th century by the " Lorch forgeries ". As a result, special claims of the diocese should be substantiated by appropriate "evidence" from the early days. It is therefore considered unlikely that he was ordained Archbishop of Passau , as it is narrated. It is also uncertain whether the mission area of the diocese extended to Moravia , as a title apostolus Mavarorum ( Apostle of the Moravians ) is supposed to indicate.

After his death Hartwig succeeded him as Bishop of Passau after two years of vacancy .
