The Baby Olds Model 42 was a lower middle class passenger car released by Oldsmobile , a General Motors brand , in 1914 to re-enter the small vehicle market that had been neglected in 1908 with the abandonment of the Curved Dash .
The cars had a side-controlled four-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 3,156 cm³, which delivered an output of 20 bhp (15 kW), which was passed on to the rear wheels via a metal cone clutch, a three-speed gearbox with center shift and a cardan shaft. All four wheels were provided with wooden spokes and the rear wheels were mechanically braked.
The cars were only available as 4-door touring cars.
In 1915 the vehicles continued to be produced. A 2-door roadster has now also been offered for the touring car. The engine had been bored out to 3,182 cm³ and now made 30 bhp (22 kW).
In 1914 500 vehicles of this type were built, in 1915 there were 1,319 units. In the course of the 1915 model year, production was switched to the successor Four .
