The Oldsmobile Achieva was a mid-range automobile offered by Oldsmobile from early 1992 to late 1997.

The Achieva (the name is a derivation of achiever ≈ the successful) was based on the N-platform of General Motors with the simultaneous sister models Pontiac Grand Am and Buick Skylark .

History by model year

1992

In spring 1992, the Achieva appeared as the successor to the Cutlass Calais as a sedan and coupé in the S and SL equipment variants. The S is powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 122 hp, the SL a 183-hp variant of the 2.3-liter with two overhead camshafts and 183 hp, coupled with a three-stage automatic transmission as standard. This machine is also available in the S-Coupé as part of the W44 package including extensive sports accessories. In the S / W44 and SL, there is also a 3.3-liter V6 with 162 hp on request.

1993

New to the range is the Achieva Coupé in the SCX version, which was offered from autumn 1992 (until the end of 1993) with the 188 hp DOHC four-cylinder, five-speed sports gearbox and electronic chassis. The four-cylinder in the S now develops 117 hp, the one in the SL 157 hp. The four-cylinder with two overhead camshafts vibrated heavily, combined with a high level of noise. It was therefore retuned for the new model year and its performance lowered for the SL.

1994

The SL Coupé was replaced by the SC Coupé; instead of the 3.3-liter V6, there was now a 3.1-liter V6 (162 hp).

1995

The equipment variants were now called S Series I and S Series II. Instead of the two four-cylinder units that had previously been available, there was a single variant of the 2.3-liter model with two overhead camshafts and balance shafts, 152 hp. The revised landing gear had a rear stabilizer.

1996

The designation S was omitted, the Coupé SC was available in the equipment levels Series I, Series II and Series III, the sedan SL only as Series II and Series III. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder with five-speed gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission (152 hp) was new. The 3.1-liter V6, which had been revised to reduce noise, developed 157 hp. Standard equipment included two airbags and air conditioning.

1997

The Series III equipment level was omitted, the sedan was now also available as a Series I. The four-speed automatic transmission was standard, the five-speed transmission was available on request for selected model variants.

1998

The coupé was discontinued, the sedan was sold as the SL to fleet customers until December 1997, exclusively with a six-cylinder and automatic.
