The Oldsmobile Model X was a passenger car manufactured by Oldsmobile from 1908 to 1909 . It was similar in concept to the contemporary M and DR models , but had a slightly smaller engine and a peculiarly outward-facing front fenders.
The vehicle had a water-cooled inline four-cylinder four-stroke engine installed at the front, which achieved an output of 32 bhp (23.5 kW) with a displacement of 4949 cm³.
The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a gearshift lever on the outside right and a cardan shaft. The brake pedal worked on the cardan shaft, the handbrake lever on the drum brakes on the rear wheels. In 1908 the Model X was delivered as a 4-door touring car, in 1909 as a 2-door special roadster. Acetylene lights , oil lamps and luggage racks were standard.
Together with the slightly larger M and MR models, 1,000 vehicles were built in 1908; in 1909, together with the D and DR models, 1,100 were produced. The following year, the X model was discontinued without replacement.
