The Oldsmobile Six was an upper mid-range passenger car built by Oldsmobile , a General Motors brand , from 1913 to 1915 . In those years, the successor to the Limited was the brand's top model. In 1917, after a year break, an Oldsmobile Six was launched again, although it was much smaller and now served as an entry-level model until the Model 43A took over this role in 1921 . A six-cylinder was only available again in 1932 with the Model 30 .

While the Limited was a luxury car with over 11 liters displacement, the new Six Series 53 of 1913 was marketed as an inexpensive car. Nonetheless, it had an in-line six-cylinder engine with a capacity of 6227 cm 3 , which developed a respectable 50 bhp (37 kW) for the period before the First World War . The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a leather cone clutch, a three-speed gearbox with a gear lever on the outside right and a cardan shaft. The rear wheels with wooden spokes were braked mechanically via drums and outer belts.

The cars were available as four-door touring cars with five or seven seats, four-door Phaetons and four-door sedans.

In 1914, the vehicles were offered almost unchanged as the Model 54 . However, the engine had been enlarged and also drew 50 bhp (37 kW) from 7325 cm 3 displacement. The wheelbase had shrunk by 3 "to 3353 mm. In 1915 the wheelbase of the Model 55 was increased again by 6 ″ to 3531 mm and the driver's seat changed from the right to the left side of the vehicle. The three-speed gearbox was now provided with a center shift. Only the seven-seater touring car was offered.

Around 500 copies of the Six were made in 1913, and around 1,000 in 1914. In 1915 only 114 luxury tourers were made.

After a year break, the Six was reissued in 1917 as Model 37th . This model was much smaller than the predecessor two years earlier. He had a six-cylinder engine with 2901 cm 3 capacity, which developed 44 hp (32 kW). Otherwise, technically everything remained the same. Since otherwise only the eight-cylinder Light Eight was offered, the Six was the entry-level model this year.

In addition to a 4-door touring car, there was also a 2-door roadster, a 2-door coupé and a 4-door sedan.

In 1918, a 2-door convertible was added to this range of bodies, but it disappeared again the following year. In 1919 the model 37A was brought out, but it showed no differences to the model 37. In 1920, only the open cars (roadsters and touring cars) were designated as Model 37A, while the sedan and coupe were offered as Model 37B . In 1921 all bodies were again called Model 37 .

A total of 59,938 of the 37 / 37A / 37B models were produced in 5 years. The six-cylinder units then disappeared from the Oldsmobile program for a year, only to be returned as the Model 30A in 1923 .
