In the 1928 model year, Oldsmobile offered the successor to the 30-E model . In addition to the classic, open bodies, such as the two-door roadster and the four-door tourer, there were two-door coupés with three seats, a two-door sedan with four seats, as well as a sedan and a landaulet with four doors and five seats each. All superstructures were available in standard and deluxe versions (e.g. with chrome-plated headlight housings). Compared to its predecessor, the car and engine had grown in size. The side-controlled six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 3228 cm³ produced 55 bhp (40 kW) at a speed of 3000 min −1 , which was passed on to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, three-speed gearbox with center shift and cardan shaft. Depending on the model, there were steel disc wheels or wheels with wooden or steel spokes. All four wheels were mechanically braked.

In 1929 there were few changes. Only the motor output increased to 61 hp (45 kW), which already at 2,600 min -1 queuing. Between the standard and deluxe versions, there was also a special version this year. In 1930, the Landaulet was gone, but there was a "Patrician Sedan" (luxury sedan) and engine power rose again to 62 bhp (46 kW) at 3000 min -1 .

In 1931 there were again no changes in style, but the tourer was discontinued and these chassis had 1 ″ less wheelbase. The engine output reached 65 bhp (48 kW) at 3350 min −1 and the three-speed gearbox was synchronized.

In 1932 the name was given up according to the year of construction. In future the model series was only called the F series. In addition to the previous six-cylinder model, there was now also an eight-cylinder model, the L-series . In the small series, a larger motor with 3490 cc capacity was installed, the 74 hp (54 kW) at 3200 min -1 gave. The chassis had also been enlarged and brought it to a 2960 mm wheelbase; the structures were the same as in the previous year. Despite these improvements, sales dropped significantly from 47,316 to 13,797.

In 1933 the bodies were significantly redesigned. The grille and one-piece windshield were tilted back slightly and the front fenders were pulled down to the bumpers. The engine was enlarged again and drew an output of 80 bhp (59 kW) from 3622 cm³. The roadster was discontinued and replaced by a convertible. There were no longer wooden spoke wheels. With 26,008 cars, almost twice as many were sold as in the previous year. 1934 they took the engine size back to the level from 1932 back, but the performance increased to 84 bhp (62 kW) at 3400 min -1 . The convertible was no longer available and the other bodies received a new radiator grille. The mechanical brakes were replaced by hydraulic ones. Sales rose again over 40,000 units, so that GM's plan to part with one of the brands Oldsmobile, Pontiac or Buick was shelved.

In 1935 there was another major facelift . All doors were now hinged at the back, the fenders were more voluminous and the now split windshield had a slight V-shape. In addition to the normal sedans (without a trunk), touring sedans with an attached trunk were introduced. The spare wheels previously built on the side of the engine compartment disappeared from the rear of the vehicle. A convertible was also delivered again. The engine output reached 90 bhp (66 kW) with the same displacement. The facelift of 1936 was only minor: the front doors were hinged again and the headlights were a little higher above the fenders. There were no technical changes.

Major changes were due in 1937: the slender, backward-sloping radiator grille was replaced by a vertical model with seven horizontal chrome bars. The engine was enlarged to 3769 cm³ and its output was 95 bhp (70 kW) at 3400 min −1 . In 1938 the cars remained almost unchanged, only the headlights were a little lower again.

In 1939, the 60 series , which was sometimes referred to as the F series, replaced the previous models. A total of 837,872 F-Series cars had been sold in 11 years.
