Oldsmobile L-Series Coupe (1935)

The Oldsmobile L-Series was a car of the luxury class , the 1932 to 1938 of Oldsmobile , a brand of General Motors , was built. It was the brand's top model.

In the first year of production, the new L-series was equipped with a side-valve in-line eight cylinder engine with 3933 cc capacity, the at 3,350 min -1 developed a power output of 87 hp (64 kW). The appearance of the vehicles corresponded to the smaller F-series models that had been manufactured since 1928 and, like these, were available as a 2-door convertible, 2-door coupé and 2 or 4-door sedan. The engine power was passed on to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, a three-speed gearbox with center shift and a cardan shaft. All four wheels had mechanically operated drum brakes and wooden spokes.

In 1933 the cars were fundamentally revised. The grille and one-piece windshield were tilted back and the front fenders pulled down to the bumper. The wheelbase had become 2 ½ "longer, so that the eight-cylinder was more clearly different from the smaller F-series. The engine output increased to 90 bhp (66 kW). In addition to the classic sedans (without a trunk), touring sedans had come, which were equipped with a trunk attached to the rear. In 1934 there were only a few changes, e.g. B. another grille.

In 1935 there was a major facelift . The fenders became more voluminous, the windshield was now split in the middle and had a slight V-shape. All doors were hinged at the back to allow more comfortable entry. The engine developed 100 bhp (74 kW) at 3,400 min −1 and the brakes were operated hydraulically. In 1936, the front doors were hinged again for safety reasons and the headlights were higher above the front fenders. Mechanically nothing changed.

In 1937 there was a new, vertical radiator grille with fine, chrome-plated crossbars. Behind it was a larger engine with a displacement of 4211 cm³, which delivered 110 bhp (81 kW) at 3600 min −1 . The wheelbase increased by another 3 ″. The wooden spoke wheels had long since been replaced by steel disc wheels. In 1938 there were hardly any changes.

In the following year the Oldsmobile 80 replaced the L-series, the name was continued as an epithet for a year. 168,253 L-series cars were built in 7 years.
