The Oldsmobile Model D was a passenger car manufactured by Oldsmobile in the 1909 model year . It replaced the M model from the previous year. The similar Oldsmobile model DR was the roadster / coupe version, had the same engine and replaced the 1908 model MR .
The vehicles had water-cooled inline four-cylinder four-stroke engines installed at the front, which this year drew an output of 40 bhp (29 kW) from the cubic capacity of 5506 cm³.
The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a gearshift lever on the outside right and a cardan shaft. The brake pedal worked on the cardan shaft, the handbrake lever on the drum brakes on the rear wheels. The car was delivered as a 4-door touring car, 4-door sedan or 4-door landaulet (model D). The DR model was available as a 2-seater roadster or a 2-door coupé. Acetylene lighting came as standard, as were oil lamps and luggage racks.
Together with the slightly smaller four-cylinder model X , 1,100 vehicles were built this year. In the following year, the D and DR models were replaced by the Special .
