Isa Katharina Gericke

Isa Katharina Gericke (born July 30, 1973 in Berlin ) is a Norwegian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Isa Katharina Gericke was born in Berlin and grew up in Norway. She studied at the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo with Ingrid Bjoner and Svein Bjørkøy (* 1951) and at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Ingrid Figur .

In 2000 she made her operatic debut at the International Opera Festival Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . In autumn 2002 she took over the role of Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel in a production by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and in autumn 2003 she played this role as a guest at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo . As a concert singer she made her debut in March 2002 in Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Oslo Filharmonie under the baton of Tõnu Kaljuste . As a soloist she has appeared with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis, the Czech Philharmonic under Philippe Auguin and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Philippe Herreweghe .

Gerickes repertoire ranges from song cycles by Robert Schumann , Franz Schubert or Alban Berg to cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and masses by Joseph Haydn to roles in great baroque operas such as Euridice in Claudio Monteverdi's L'Orfeo , Dido in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas or Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare .

Together with the Norwegian pianist Sveinung Bjelland , she is the artistic director of the Glogerfestspillene chamber music festival, which takes place every January in Kongsberg .

Isa Katharina Gericke was the driving force who - along with other Norwegian musicians who are fond of baroque music - founded the Oslo Barokk Opera in early 2007 . On February 16, 2007, she opened the Oslo Baroque Opera in the former Jacob's Church, which has been a cultural center since 2000 ( Kulturkirken Jacob ), with La descente d'Orphée aux enfers by Marc-Antoine Charpentier .
