The Oldsmobile Special was a mid- size passenger car released in 1910 by Oldsmobile , a General Motors brand , as the successor to the D, DR and X models . The Special was the brand's new entry-level model after the smaller Model 20 was discontinued.
The cars had a side-controlled four-cylinder in-line engine with 5506 cm³ displacement, which delivered an output of 40 bhp (29 kW), which was passed on to the rear wheels via a leather cone clutch, a four-speed gearbox with a gear lever on the outside right and a cardan shaft. All four wheels were provided with wooden spokes and the rear wheels were braked mechanically with drums and outer bands.
The Special was available as a 4-door touring car or sedan ( series 22 ), or as a 2-door roadster ( series 25 ).
In 1911 the vehicles continued to be manufactured without major changes. However, the engine output decreased to 36 bhp (23.5 kW). 2- and 4-door models were offered as Series 26 .
In 1910, 1525 vehicles of this type were built, in 1911 there were 1000 pieces together with the larger Autocrat model . The following year the Defender replaced the Special.
