The Oldsmobile Defender was a mid- size passenger car released in 1912 by Oldsmobile , a General Motors brand , as the successor to the Special . The Defender was the brand's entry-level model.

The cars had a side-controlled four-cylinder in-line engine with 4375 cm³ displacement, which delivered an output of 35 bhp (26 kW), which was passed on to the rear wheels via a metal cone clutch, a four-speed gearbox with gear lever on the right outside and a cardan shaft. All four wheels were provided with wooden spokes and the rear wheels were braked mechanically with drums and outer bands.

The cars were available as 4-door touring cars, as 2-door coupes or as 2-door roadsters.

In 1913, the vehicles continued to be produced without major changes, but only as touring cars. The two-door models were omitted.

In 1912 325 vehicles of this type were built, in 1913 there were 1,000. In the following year, the four-cylinder car was discontinued without replacement.
