politics

City council and mayor

After the Lower Saxony municipal elections in 2011 , the council of the municipality of Itterbeck was composed of two councilors and nine councilors. Mayor is Lambertus Wanink (CDU).

coat of arms

On November 3, 1970, the council of the municipality of Itterbeck decided to adopt the coat of arms described below, designed by the heraldist Hans Heinrich Reclam from Osnabrück .

Description of the coat of arms : "In gold, a green wave oblique left bar, with three green balls from above and four below."

Reason: The colors allude to the first part of the place name (Itter = heather), the sand and the vegetation. The wavy inclined left bar embodies the stream contained in the name of the community. The spheres that also appear in the coat of arms of the district and some neighboring towns (as so-called “Bentheimer Pfennigs”) have been moved to the very edge here, to indicate the location of Itterbeck near the border. Their number corresponds to the districts of Itterbeck.

Education and Social

There is a primary school in Itterbeck . All secondary schools are located in the neighboring town of Uelsen . There were two play groups in the community for the smaller children: in Itterbeck the play group "Wonneproppen" and in Egge the "Egger dwarfs", which in 2012 were combined to form a kindergarten in the newly built community center . Since 2001 there has also been a separate group in Egge, in which children from the age of 2½ are looked after. For the elderly, there is an independent youth club on site, as well as afternoon groups for children organized by the YMCA and the Reformed parish.

Freetime activities

Itterbeck has extensive cycling and hiking trails that lead either through the village or through the entire Niedergrafschaft. Popular excursion destinations are the "Egger Riese", the Itterbecker Heide and the Itter springs. For some time now, the “Hof für Heimatpflege” has drawn numerous visitors under its spell, which has brought Itterbeck's past to life again. This includes a group of traditional costumes that authentically reproduce historical Itterbeck costumes. There are also tennis courts, soccer fields and a teaching pool available in the village.

The old Bundeswehr depot is currently being converted by the Dutch entrepreneur Hennie van der Most . A large leisure park with a golf course and indoor camping is to be built here.
