The Internationalist Communist Party ( Partito Comunista Internazionalista , "PCInt") was founded in Italy in 1943 , according to its own statements, "for the purpose of resuming the path of revolutionary communism ". At that time she had turned against both the Mussolini dictatorship and the Stalinist Communist Party of Italy (KPI). After the Second World War, a revolutionary wave was expected analogous to the events of 1917/1918 (including the October Revolution ).

In 1952 there was a split into a wing of the founder of the KPI, Amadeo Bordiga and another wing around Onorato Damen , the actual founder of the PCInt. The wing around Bordiga called itself Partito Comunista Internazionale , ie “ International Communist Party ” (IKP) , since 1961 .

After Amadeo Bordiga's death, the ICP split into several groups (1972, 1981).
