Hans Heinrich Reclam is the son of the founder of the Reclam publishing house in Leipzig, Anton Philipp Reclam (1807-1896). In 1863 he joined the publishing house and in 1868 became its partner. From 1890 to 1917 he was the owner of the company. Under his leadership from 1867, the Reclams Universal Library, founded by his father, was greatly expanded and became his life's work. During his aegis, the new publishing house was built in the graphic quarter . From 1900 he was the owner of the Villa Swiderski / Reclam at Karl-Tauchnitz-Straße 35 in the music district . He was the city ​​councilor of Leipzig from 1888 to 1892.
