Location of the community of Quendorf in the Grafschaft Bentheim district | ||
Quendorf is a rural municipality in the Grafschaft Bentheim district . The community is a member of the Schüttorf joint community in south-western Lower Saxony . There is no village center, some settlements and isolated farms make up the community.
history
The first documentary mention as "Quenethorpe" comes from the year 1197, the oldest archaeological finds date from the Neolithic Age (approx. 3500–1800 BC). The name comes either from the word “Querne” (term for a semi-mechanical mill) or from the Westphalian “Quene” for a young cattle. A completely different interpretation sees the origin in the "Quenna" title for a high woman.
In 1971, Quendorf merged with the town of Schüttorf and the communities Drievorden (since 1974 part of Engden ), Engden, Neerlage (since 1974 part of Isterberg ), Ohne , Samern , Suddendorf (since 2011 part of Schüttorf) and Wengsel (since 1974 part Isterberg) to form the joint municipality of Schüttorf.

Infrastructure
As part of the construction of the A 30 , a small lake (Quendorfer See) was created, which is used as a local recreation center. The Vechte , a small river that flows into the Zwarte Water , divides the village and offers anglers and canoeists the opportunity to pursue their hobby.
As part of the reactivation of local rail passenger transport as the RB 56 between Bad Bentheim and Neuenhaus on July 7, 2019 , a stop was set up in the immediate vicinity of the former train station in Quendorf. In addition, the regional bus route 50 of the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Grafschaft Bentheim (VGB) connects Quendorf with Schüttorf and Isterberg .
A small elementary school takes in children from Quendorf and the neighboring community of Isterberg. In the north of the municipality is the medieval Klusenplatz .
