Neustifter almost without exception makes one-offs and he mostly works in bronze, stone and steel.

Twelve pillars for Europe

After the three Benedict columns for Marktl , the Benedictine abbey Metten and Velletri, Neustifter created a fourth column in his studio in Eggenfelden . It was set up on May 28, 2009 in the French pilgrimage site of Lourdes.

The idea of the column in the form of a scroll is derived from the Regula of St. Benedict of Nursia , the patron of Europe. This form of architecture is the unifying distinguishing mark, but the statements of the columns are each dedicated to a different topic. The Lourdes column, like the three Benedict columns, is made of light bronze. It is 4.30 meters high and was cast as a one-off in Eisenfelden.

Lourdes column

The Lourdes column is 4.30 meters high and cast in light bronze. The content of this column is dedicated to the theme of Lourdes, the Marian apparition of St. Bernadette, as well as the four great saints of France, Jean-Marie Vianney (the parish priest of Ars), Therese of Lisieux , Charles de Foucauld and St. Bernadette Soubirous . All texts on it are written in French. The writings on the column are the traditional texts that were spoken at the time of the apparition of Mary. The motifs are the most important stages in Bernadette's life. Further details are e.g. B. cut as a gem the Altöttinger Madonna or St. James, the Adoration of the Magi, the Madonna Notre Dame of Paris and a symbol for the European union. With the coat of arms of Pope Benedict XVI. and the year 2008 is linked to the 150th anniversary of the apparition as well as to the other Benedict columns.

The Lourdes column is a gift from a Beirut family to the French pilgrimage site and dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the apparition of Mary. Key data are incorporated into the base plate, which, among other things, symbolize shaking hands of the major world religions. “A page is also dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks,” said Neustifter. Joseph Michael Neustifter worked on the Lourdes column for nine months. On May 26, 2009 the column was transported to Lourdes.

After the four granite floor slabs had been set, the column could be erected there with a crane. The column stands 200 meters away from the grotto in the so-called “Holy Area” on a square in front of the Accueil Notre Dame, where the pilgrimage processions with the sick begin.

Corridor crossroads

For the Flurkreuzweg on the Buchberg in Traitsching , which was consecrated in 2010, Neustifter made 15 bronze plaques depicting the 15 stations of the Passion of Christ.
