Georg Brenninger

Georg Brenninger (born December 18, 1909 in Velden an der Vils in Lower Bavaria , † November 13, 1988 in Munich ) was a German sculptor , architect and university professor .

Life

Georg Brenninger grew up in poor circumstances because his father - a master bricklayer - was often ill. Like his father, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer , but later also created tombs for nearby cemeteries like a stonemason . After the bricklayer journeyman's examination in Velden in 1928, he attended the trade school in Munich. From 1930 to 1932 he completed architecture studies with Theodor Fischer at the Technical University of Munich and in 1932 moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he studied with Hermann Hahn .

He was a war correspondent from 1939 to 1942 until he was wounded in Russia. From 1943 to 1947 he worked as a freelance sculptor. In 1947 he was appointed full professor for sculpture in connection with architecture at the Technical University of Munich. In 1961 he became a full professor for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was also president of the academy from 1968 to 1969. From 1978 to 1988 he was again active as a freelance artist.

Brenninger not only exhibited in Germany, such as Munich and Berlin, but also in Rome, Paris, Antwerp, Lucerne, Chile, Peru, Brazil and the like. a. and participated in advisory bodies and committees for architecture and sculpture.

As a sculptor, Brenninger mainly worked in bronze, but also in stone.

His works can be found in Vilsbiburg , Söcking , Germering , Bonbruck , Erlangen and Kundl in Tyrol, as well as in the Bavarian-Swabian town of Thannhausen . He bequeathed all models of his works to the market town of Velden; On the occasion of the artist's 100th birthday, the Brenninger-Weg was opened there in the “Brenninger Year 2009” to honor his work. The path opens up over 30 of his works of art in the public space of Velden.
