Schwabing Art Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schwabing Art Prize has been awarded annually by the City of Munich's Department of Culture since 1961 to people or institutions who are based in the Munich district of Schwabing or whose services have been rendered “in accordance with the Schwabing tradition”. It is based on a civic initiative of the writer Florian Seidl and the then Süddeutsche Zeitung co-partner Hans Dürrmeier .

Up to 2012, two prizes, each endowed with 5,000 euros, as well as an undoped honorary prize were awarded, donated by the Kulturstiftung der Stadtsparkasse München , Karl Eisenrieder - Cafė Münchner Freiheit , Constantin Film AG and the City of Munich . The winners are determined by a five-person jury.

In 2013, thanks to another foundation of the Stadtsparkasse München , three prizes of 5,000 euros each were awarded for the first time.
