Emil Krieger: Mourning soldiers (Langemark German War Cemetery, Belgium)

Emil Krieger (born September 8, 1902 in Kaiserslautern , † September 6, 1979 in Munich ) was a German sculptor and graphic artist .

Education and artistic career

Emil Krieger completed his technical training at the master school in Kaiserslautern . From 1921 he attended the arts and crafts school in Munich . His teachers here were: Richard Riemerschmid , Adolf Schinnerer and Julius Diez . From 1924 to 1931 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he was a master student of Josef Wackerle . In 1928 he had his first exhibition in the Munich Glass Palace . In 1936, Krieger was awarded the Rome Prize . From 1946 to 1977 he held a teaching position for life drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1961 he received the Schwabing Art Prize .

  • The sculpture " Isis floating on the waves" (badly damaged in World War II), today in Munich- Sendling in the park on the Neuhofener Berg , originally positioned on a fountain at Munich's Possartplatz (today Shakespeareplatz), year of origin unknown
