Eva Hesse (author)
Eva Hesse (born March 2, 1925 in Berlin ; † March 30, 2020 in Munich ) was a German author , essayist , editor and translator .
Life
Eva Hesse lived in London before the Second World War , where her father, the journalist Fritz Hesse (1898–1980), was a press adviser at the German embassy. After the war she studied in Munich and worked as an editor and translator of Anglo-American literature.
Eva Hesse has translated Ezra Pound's work into German, edited it and interpreted it with critical essays and as part of a biography. She conveyed essential American poetry of the 20th century to the German public with translations by EE Cummings , TS Eliot , Robert Frost , Langston Hughes , Robinson Jeffers , James Laughlin , Marianne Moore and Melvin B. Tolson . Eva Hesse also transferred Samuel Beckett .
