Michael Basse

Michael Basse (born April 14, 1957 in Bad Salzuflen ) is a German writer .

He has published novels, poems, essays and audio books as well as translated poems from English, French and Bulgarian (including John F. Deane, Blaga Dimitrova , Ljubomir Nikolov ).

Life

Michael Basse grew up in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Baden-Wuerttemberg due to the frequent relocation of his parents. He passed his Abitur in 1976 at the Evangelical Seminary in Maulbronn / Blaubeuren . From 1977 to 1979 Basse completed a traineeship at the Schwäbische Zeitung . He then moved to SDR in Stuttgart. In the winter semester of 1982 Basse began studying law in Regensburg, in 1984 he moved to Munich and switched to philosophy at the LMU , where he graduated with a master's degree in 1990. In 1984 Basse was one of the co-founders of the Munich Literature Office , of which he was a member of the board for four years. In the 1990s and 2000s, Basse introduced numerous authors to the Lyrik Kabinett in Munich . a. Anise Koltz and Jean Portante , Eva Hesse and Mary de Rachewiltz , daughter and editor of Ezra Pound's works . From 1993 to 2015 Basse worked as a permanent freelancer in the cultural criticism department of Bayerischer Rundfunk . From 1994 to 1999 he regularly wrote literary reviews for the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Michael Basse has been a freelance writer since 2015.

Literary work

As soon as his poetry debut And mornings There Still Message was published (1992, 1994/2), the critics agreed that Basse was not only “a powerful lyric poet”, “who looks at particles of reality as if under a magnifying glass”, but that all of his Texts ground the motif of placelessness, homelessness or non-belonging, to which the lyrical self reacts with the attempt to find something like a temporary linguistic home through poetry "as the only second world in the local" (Jean Paul). Basse's first collection of poems was still strongly influenced by the poetology of his mentor at the time, Johannes Poethen , as explained in his essay Im Labor der Träume in Hans Bender's anthology Mein Gedicht ist mein Messer (1955). In search of new means of expression, Basses found a form in his third collection of poems Partisanengefühle (2004), which he called lyrical protocols - texts or speech acts that are rhythmic and merge different levels of discourse and reality. Critics rated Basse's protocols as complex, personal as well as political accounting for the present, especially with the self-sufficient sensitivity of pop literature. After another volume of prose poems ( Prachtmenschen , 2008), Basse returned to shorter poetry forms in his fifth and so far last volume of poetry skype connected (2010), which, however - like his lyrical protocols - are closely based on everyday spoken language.
