Munich Literature Office

The Münchner Literaturbüro - Haidhauser Werkstatt eV is an association of authors and people interested in literature in Munich - Haidhausen that has existed since 1984 . The literature office organizes readings every Friday, at which the texts read aloud are discussed and criticized, giving the author an impression of the effect of his text and often suggestions and suggestions for improvement from the (mostly self-writing) audience. Over 1400 such reading evenings have now taken place.

The Haidhauser Workshop Prize has been awarded once a year since 1991 . Since 2001, the audience has chosen the candidates as the daily winners of monthly reading evenings, from which the winner of the workshop award is then chosen annually. Prize winners included Arnold Leifert (1995), Florian Seidel (1995), Jaromir Konecny (1998) and Hendrik Rost (1999). In 2003 one of the daily winners of the competition was Uwe Tellkamp with his text "Fruchtfliegentage".

The annual Munich Poetry Prize was also organized by the Munich Literature Office from 2010 to 2015; after that, the newly founded association Lyrikpreis München eV took over the organization. A preliminary jury selects authors who then qualify for the final in preliminary rounds in a public reading. The final will also take place in the form of a public reading, with the winners being chosen by a jury of poetry experts. Prize winners included Lisa Elsässer , Carl-Christian Elze and Birgit Kreipe .

Furthermore, the Munich Literature Office organizes the Haidhauser Buchertage at irregular intervals - an event at which publishers, literary magazines and other institutions present themselves around literature.

The literary magazines TORSO and besides were created in the vicinity of the literature office and were originally published by members. Furthermore, the “LiteraturSeiten München”, a monthly leaflet with literature dates in Munich and a corresponding website are published or operated by members of the literature office.

The literary office is funded by the Culture Department of the City of Munich . It is located in Milky Way 4 not far from Rosenheimer Platz.
