The Munich Poetry Prize is an open literary competition for German-language poetry . The organizer in the first few years was the Munich Literature Office . In 2015, a separate sponsoring association was founded, the Lyrikpreis München eV, which has been the organizer of the award since then. The Munich Poetry Prize has been held annually since 2010 and is endowed with 1,000 euros, plus alternate sponsorship prizes for the second and third place winners. The Munich Poetry Prize will be held in two stages. A preliminary jury selects six to eight applicants from the submissions for the usually three pre-selection evenings, which take place as public readings. An independent jury made up of literary scholars and poets nominates the finalists, who are invited to the final reading, which is also public, in the lecture hall of the library in Munich's Gasteig . Here an extended jury determines the winners. In 2015, the prize was held exceptionally without a preliminary round, the preliminary jury selected the participants for the final directly.

The twofold change of the jury from the preliminary jury to the first reading for the final reading is discussed critically by some authors. At the same time, however, the price is also valued as independent and committed.
