Friedrich Märker Prize
The Friedrich Märker Prize for Essayists was a German literary prize named after the Bavarian essayist Friedrich Märker . From 1986 to 2002 it was awarded annually by the Munich Foundation for the Promotion of Literature .

The Friedrich Märker Prize for essayists was the successor to the “Poet Prize” (founded in 1950) by the foundation established by Märker . This was funded by the Bavarian Radio and was endowed with 5,000 DM. The award winners included a. Uwe Dick , Marieluise Fleißer , Leonhard Frank , Wolfgang Koeppen , Max Peinkofer , Ruth Rehmann , Paula Schlier and Siegfried von Vegesack .
In addition, from 1975 the foundation awarded the undoped silver pen “for special merits in the communication and dissemination of literature”. After the founder's death in 1985, the Essay Prize was created in his honor, initially along with other honorary gifts. This was discontinued in 2002 due to a lack of public response. The foundation has not been active since then.
The endowment was last 4,000 euros. In addition to individual cultural workers, the jury also included representatives from Bavarian Radio, the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Tukan Circle .
