Bernhard Eichhorn

Bernhard Eichhorn (born April 17, 1904 in Schortewitz ; † February 6, 1980 in Miesbach ; born Bernhard Günther Eichhorn ) was a German conductor and film composer .

Life

Eichhorn studied music and theater studies in Munich and attended the State Academy of Music there . In 1929 he became Kapellmeister at the Bayerische Landesbühne, then at the Bavarian State Theater and finally at the Münchner Kammerspiele . In the 1931/32 season he worked at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm .

In 1933/34 he conducted again at Munich theaters before he became music director of the municipal theaters in Dresden in 1934 . He stayed here until the general theater ban in 1944. From 1940 he became increasingly active as a film composer. He worked particularly often for productions by Helmut Käutner , but the Ludwig Ganghofer adaptations by film producer Peter Ostermayr and other homeland films were also accompanied by his music.

Immediately after the war, Eichhorn returned to the Münchner Kammerspiele, and since 1946 he has been working as a freelancer. In addition to the feature films, he also composed the music for several documentaries and radio plays.
